Anna Coddington Ngati Whakaue’s own Anna Coddington with her album, The Lake showcases Anna’s beautifully crafted pop songs with a sprinkling of attitude, charm and humour. The album was released on June 3rd 2008. This is her single, T-Shirt which features on the album. | | | ngati tarawhai spruces up marae Te Arawa Fisheries has established an Iwi Partnership with the Ngati Tarawhai Iwi Trust to deliver a community project which will help do up the Waikohatu Marae at Rotoiti for the people of Ngati Tarawhai. Te Arawa Fisheries has provided funding of $10,000 to assist the Trust with the upgrade of the marae facilities and the development of papakainga housing. | | | Monitoring Maketu Mussels Te Arawa Fisheries supported the Maketu Taiapure Committee to undertake a survey to provide detailed data about abundance, distribution and average size of mussels at Maketu against which past and future surveys can be compared. Future surveys will be conducted to monitor changes over time and identify habitat for the purposes of possible rehabilitation and protection. | | | Caring for the Kaituna The Maketu Taiapure Trust, with the support of the Western Bay Council, has been holding planting days at the Borrow Pits on the lower Kaituna River. The planting is part of a Trust project aimed at expanding the wetlands habitat for native fish by excavating new ponds along the river. Less than one per cent of the Te Puke lowlands, once containing thousands of acres of flax swamp, is left in wetlands today. The impact on the Kaituna River of flood control measures, straightening, run-off from industry and farms, sewerage and algae has further degraded the habitat of local fisheries, both freshwater and marine. Project leader, Peter Ellery, encourages the building of more ponds to entice the fish in and thereby increase their numbers enough to make a difference to our coastal fisheries. | | | Growing your assets Our primary role is to manage the assets received from the Crown in settlement of Te Arawa’s claims to commercial fisheries and it is critical that we stay accountable to our people. Take a look at our Annual Meeting Report for 2009 to see our Annual Report, Strategic Plan and Annual Plan. Watch out for notices about our Annual Meeting which is held annually in February. | | | |
